Junior Band

The Band exists to engage and enthuse children (and adults) in music making, and to help them progress within our organisation.

The Blackburn & Darwen Junior Band was formed in the early 1980’s by a number of dedicated helpers from the Senior Band. The aim of forming the band was to encourage children in the area to achieve a high standard of musical ability so that they would eventually become part of the Senior Band.

Gordon Clough conducted the first rehearsal, which was attended by 15 children of widely varying musical ability.

Alan Thomas became Musical Director in 1984 and brought with him a considerable number of children from the local schools.

The Junior Band continues to thrive under the direction of Dee Ashworth, please visit their page for more information.
