Fantastic day of contesting

What a great day we had celebrating our 175 years with our inaugural March & Hymn Tune contest. The buzz around Darwen Town Centre was amazing as 12 bands took it in turn to march along the main road before performing their chosen hymn and march tune. The day ran without a hitch and the last band to play had actually played their hymn when the clock struck 4pm which was their allocated start time!
The band would like to say a very big thank you to Pauline Steele who thought of the idea and to Darwen Town Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Capita for supporting our event with special thanks to Pete Hollings and our photographer and friend Pete Fitchett who took some fantastic photographs. (Photo's of the day will soon be on our Flickr account.)
Thanks also to our adjudicator for the day Russell Gray who had the task of judging the bands and choosing the prize winners. Huge thanks to all the competing bands, we thought you were all superb.
The large crowds listening in glorious sunshine thoroughlly enjoyed theirselves and the feedback from everyone was amazing. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks once again to everyone involved making the day a huge success.
