Tariq Ahmed - Solo Horn

Tariq (Taz to friends) first joined the Blackburn & Darwen ‘Senior’ Band in 1993, having come through the ranks of the Junior and 2nd band (now known as Darwen Brass). In 1997 he left the band to join Freckleton, going on to play for Wingates, Besses o’th’Barn and Leyland before returning to Blackburn & Darwen in 2005.

Tariq won the Blackburn and Darwen Band Solo Competition in 2007 and 2008. Other banding highlights include winning the 1993 North West Area (1st Section) with Blackburn & Darwen, the 1997 National Finals (1st Section) with Freckleton and the 2004 North West Area (Championship Section) with Leyland.

Over the years Tariq has fulfilled a number of roles within the band, having been a member of the Committee, Musical Director of the 2nd Band, Secretary and Chairman. His current responsibilities are to run the Patrons Scheme, assist with the website and book guest players to fill any gaps for concerts. His ambitions are to ensure that the band has a full membership, expands its concert work and wins a few contests!
