Tom Johnson - Soprano
Tom started playing the Cornet aged 12 in 1972 with Hesketh Bank band. Ten years later he joined Blackburn and Darwen (then known as Darwen) and had a great deal of success in the contest field under Musical Director and friend Gordon Clough. This included a very creditable 4th place in the Championship Section at the North West Regional Championships, playing the Waverley Overture.
After returning to Hesketh Bank for a while Tom moved to the USA, living in San Diego. On his return to the UK in 1994 Tom rejoined Hesketh Bank, playing a crucial role in the running of the band and helping to establish a successful Junior band.
Two decades after first joining the band, and following a brief spell with the Longridge Band, we are delighted to welcome Tom back to Blackburn and Darwen, and hope we can reproduce some of the success of the ‘Glory Days’ of the 1980s!
